Iowa king
Hey yall

Just thought I'd introduce myself. Stage name: Dickins Cyder

I've only drag kinged a few times, but I started performing more often with a group of drag queens in my college town at a straight bar. It's actually pretty fun there because you get the gay boys (who LOVE drag kings and tip well), the straight girls (who also show me a lot of love), lesbians (who will take my clothes off on stage), and the loveably uncomfortable straight boys who don't even know we exist. It's a lot of fun and I love performing in a more collaborative environment.

Anyway, here to meet other kings and maybe exchange ideas or stories. Some pics of me:

An open letter to our communities from “Elliott” (a pseudonym), Kate Loewe stopsexualviolence@riseup.net), Kathy Ni Keefe (nikeefe@riseup.net), Samuel Lurie (slurie@gmavt.net), and Eli Clare (eclare@gmavt.net):

We are writing to let our communities know about a recent hate crime that occurred in New Mexico. We are writing to break silence, to create resistance to violence and space for healing, and to build support for the survivor. We are writing in hopes that we can take care of each other, undercut the community-wide fear that comes with hate violence, and work toward justice.

Please note that what follows contains some graphic details, which could be triggering. Also, the survivor is a parent of two children, and this information MUST NOT reach them.

Hey all, I'm new to this community. I'm a drag king from Baltimore, MD - been performing for about 2 years now.

To get to the point - I was awarded a Wild Card bid for the Mr. Gay USA FMI 2007 competition in Hickory, NC. I was wondering what other Drag Kings do in order to find sponsorship for competitions/shows/whatever?

I've never been in a competition this large (or this far away) before and there is a lot of cost associated with it and I'm just looking to find a way to offset those expenses.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Christopher Dane

Alright, I'm new to this whole drag king thing, but I am VERY interested in it. I've been "practicing" in my bedroom for a while now.

Anyway -- I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to look more convincing without spending huge amounts of money. I look fairly feminine -- there are more pictures of me at www.myspace.com/deejaypip

Drag King survey
Hey. I'm writing a paper on drag kings for a queer culture class I have. I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to talk to me a bit about yr involvement in drag and what it means to you, etc etc.
Some questions:
-How do you identify in regards to sexual orientation?
-How do you identify gender-wise?
-What do you think you achieve by doing drag?
-When are you in drag? All the time? At work? For performances?
-Who are yr drag icons?

and anything ese you'd like to add would be much much much appreciated. You can e-mail me at antimaud@hotmail.com if you'd rather the answers be private.
Mod, i didn't see anything up on the info page against any solicitations like this, but let me know if it's not cool + take it down, etc.

Thanks guys.

I'm still relatively new as a performer, having only performed less than a year. I am on cast as the only drag king at a local all-ages club in my hometown. Hopefully, I'll soon start getting more opportunities for bookings and whatnot. Anyway, here is a picture of me.

It's not the best quality in the world, but was taken by me with my phone, so I guess that is to be expected.

Reminder for Studio 54!
Hello hello,

All right, so there are still a few days left to sign up for Studio 54. What we are seriously lacking at this point are dragqueens actually (wouhou for the kings!!!) and way more GROUP acts. So if you've never done drag but have always wanted to or would like to pair up with people send a quick e-mail to political@lgbtout.com

Studio 54 is LGBTOUT's annual amateur drag competition. It'll be happening at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre on March 6th (Sunday in Toronto Canada). It's an ALL AGES event so don't let that underage business stop you from slapping onthat spirit gum or sporting that magnificient wig for all to see!!! The deadline to apply is January 31st!

Thank you to all who have already responded. If you or anyone else have any questions please do not hesitate to drop me a note political@lgbtout.com

Also if you'd like to volunteer that night (e.g. collect cover, help behind the stage, etc...) send me an e-mail as well. Anyone wishing to partake in the committee (e.g. help us take decisions should also drop me a line). You don't need any previous experience in the drag world to do either of the later. Thanks again in advance and if you're not competiting I hope to see you there the night of for some fierce performances!
